Vista not ready yet

VISTA NOT READY YET:

If you are planning to upgrade to vista, think again. There is no complete driver support for Vista. Your hardware may not work properly and your vendor can give you only the vista OS. Many popular software does not work on Vista. Unlike its predecessors, Vista is completely new software by itself and you have to learn a new OS again.

Feature changes in Vista:

Well you get a totally new software with good aero looks. But that's the end to it. If you were a window user, then you would be disappointed to find that all your old programs will not work. The windows mail (no outlook express here) does not support multiple identities.

Incredimail : The program just runs on Vista, but sometimes buggy.

Foxmail :

Hardware:

All your old harware may not be supported by vista OS.

HP: We are sorry to inform you that there will be no Windows Vista support available for your HP product. Therefore your product will not work with Windows Vista. If you are using the Windows Vista operating system on your computer, please consider upgrading to a newer HP product that is supported on Windows Vista. HP has numerous products on the market that support Windows Vista. If you are in the US, see http://www.hp.com/united-states/tradein/home_flash.html .

Third party softwares:

Any VB application that required ADODC and MDAC will not work on Vista. Sorry you have to modify your application.

Other issues:

* if you don't have your machine connected to the net, then you are in for a naggy first time run script in IE7, that tries to connect to microsoft network everytime you open IE7.
There is no consideration given for private networks (how funny). This problem does not go away by changing the home page of the IE.
* Your ftp opens in a internet explorer screen instead of the windows explorer screen. Logging in to the ftp server is a bane. Here first you must change the view to the windows explorer style. Took a full day to know that such a setting existed.
*You cannot open a share of your old NT machine or your samba server. By default the
security setting is set at NTLM2 which must be changed to LM & NTLM for your machine to connect to your older PCs

Service pack for Vista is expected and it has to be seen if the problems are addressed in it or not.

How to clean the RAM card

The most vulnerable part in the computer is the RAM. If your PC speaker gives repeated beeps when it is booting, it indicates that there is dust accumulation on the contacts of theRAM card. To resolve the problem you have to clean the contacts or the terminals of the RAM card.

Tools Required

1) Screw Driver (Plus / Star) of suitable size.
2) Cotton Swab.
3) Non-oxidising alcohol.

Pre-requisites:

1) Ensure that the PC is shutdown.
2) Switch OFF the power switch .
3) Remove the power cord.

Accessing the Card:

4) Using the screw-driver, unscrew the cabinet cover to reveal the mother board.

5) Locate the RAM card. The above picture shows the images of RAM.
6) The RAMs are normally held by side clips that must be pushed out so that the card
released and pops out.
7) Carefully remove the card out.
8) Wetting the cotton with alcohol, Wipe on the copper contacts 2-3 times.
9) Let it dry.
10) Then keeping in mind, the position of the notch, re-insert the card and push it gently
in the slot till you hear the clips latch.
11) Put the cover back and tighten the screws.
12) Normalise the power supply and boot your machine
